Ngqeleni – One of the two convicted rapists – Siyabulela Khohliso – who escaped from Ngqeleni Correctional Centre in the Eastern Cape on Freedom Day has been rearrested, authorities said Monday.
“Offender Siyabulela Khohliso has been rearrested and transferred to Mthatha Correctional Centre,” the Department of Correctional Service said.
“He was caught in the Libode area. All efforts are now focussed on finding Athini Nothi Mzingelwa as he remains at large.”

The National Commissioner of the Department of Correctional Services, Makgothi Thobakgale, who visited Ngqeleni Correctional facility on Workers’ Day, (1 May 2023), said eight officials who were on duty on the day of the escape have been suspended.
“Two additional officials have been issued with a notice of suspension,” said the department.
“The investigation is ongoing and more developments are expected to ensue.”
