Boksburg – The four Boksburg North Police officers accused of the assault and torture of a foreign national on 9 January 2023, made their first appearance the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on Friday, (3 February 2023).
Earlier this week, the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) said four members of the Boksburg North Visible Policing were arrested at their workplace on Wednesday, (1 February 2023), and were being detained at the Boksburg Police Station.
Initially, the police officers, who are accused of beating the Nigerian so badly he was in a coma for nine days, were expected to appear in court on Thursday.
However, the accused only appeared in court on Friday, where their matter was adjourned.
The accused’s formal bail hearing was set for next week on Tuesday, (7 February 2023).

In a related development, IPID Spokesperson Lizzy Suping said: “Their charges have also been reviewed and changed from Assault GBH and defeating the ends of justice to Kidnapping and Attempted Murder”.
Suping added: “The four, a sergeant and three constables, are still detained at the Boksburg holding cells”.
