Four Boksburg Cops To Appear In Court Today For Beating Foreign National

Boksburg – Four police officers accused of assaulting a foreign national so badly he was in a coma for nine days will today appear in court.

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) said four members of the Boksburg North Visible Policing were arrested Wednesday morning over the assault and torture of a foreign national.

The complainant accuses the four arrested police officers of beating him in Boksburg North on 9 January 2023.

IPID Spokesperson Lizzy Suping narrated the events of that fateful day.

“The victim together with his friends were approached by the police officers who demanded to see their Identity Documentation,” said Suping.

“When the victim could not produce an original copy of the required documentation, he was taken to the police station where he was allegedly assaulted and tortured by the officers.

“The victim was taken to hospital for medical attention where he was in a coma for nine days.”

The four accused include a sergeant and three constables. They face charges of Assault (GBH) and Defeating the ends of Justice.

“The four officers were arrested at their place of work today, (1 February 2023), and will be detained at the Boksburg Police Station.”

The accused will today appear before the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court.
