FIFA Assistant Referee Max Molelekoa Dies In Car Crash, SAFA ‘Saddened’

Johannesburg – FIFA Assistant Referee Moeketsi Max Molelekoa died in a car crash on Friday.

The South African Football Association (SAFA) on Saturday said it was “deeply saddened” by Molelekoa’s passing at the age of 31.

SAFA Head of Referees, Abdul Ebrahim said Molelekoa passed away after a car accident on Friday, (20 January 2023), night.

Molelekoa died in a collision between his car and a bus in his hometown of Botshabelo in the Free State. 

“Our deepest sympathy goes out to his family at this difficult time. The refereeing fraternity in South Africa is saddened by this loss. May his soul rest in peace,” SAFA said in a terse communique.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, loved ones, and friends.”

Details of his funeral service and other related activities are yet to be finalised.
