Johannesburg – Parliament will on Tuesday, (6 December 2022), consider and debate the adverse three-member panel report that said President Cyril Ramaphosa “may have” breached his oath of office regarding the robbery at his Phala Phala farm.

At the weekend the Forum of Opposition Political Parties said the National Assembly “must ensure that indeed a resolution to set up the impeachment committee is taken”.
The Forum of Opposition Political Parties is comprised of the Democratic Alliance (DA); Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF); Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP); African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP); United Democratic Movement (UDM); National Freedom Party (NFP); African Transformation Movement (ATM); African Independent Congress (AIC), Congress of the People (COPE); and Pan Africanist Congress of Azania (PAC).
“Parliament must be physically convened to vote for the impeachment process to commence when we convene on the 6th of December 2022,” said the forum in a joint statement released Saturday.
“The Forum Of Opposition Parties further agrees that, in addition to the Section 89 impeachment process, we will request the DA, the official leader of the opposition, to table a motion of no confidence against Mr. Ramaphosa on the basis of the prima facie evidence that he committed serious violations of the Constitution and laws of the Republic.”
Tuesday’s sitting will be the National Assembly’s last plenary session before the festive break.
However, the unsigned statement attributed to the DA, EFF, IFP, FF+, ACDP, UDM, ATM, AIC, NFP, and PAC said: “The Forum of Opposition Political Parties will table a proposal to the Speaker, the Chief Whips Forum, and the National Assembly Programming Committee that will result in the schedule of Parliament being extended to accommodate an exhaustive approach and process on the Section 89 impeachment process because it cannot be delayed any further
The scheduled last sitting will also consider:
1. The Children’s Amendment Bill, Report of the PC on Social Development thereon, and farewell speeches. Other matters on the Order Paper for the same sitting include:
2. Recommendation of candidates to fill 12 vacancies on the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) Board (Report of PC on Communications and Digital Technologies.
3. Approval of South Africa’s Membership of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank.
Since the adverse three-member panel report was released on Wednesday, last week, Ramaphosa, who denies any wrongdoing, was expected to make an appearance today at the ANC meeting.
Updating the nation on Ramaphosa’s next move, his spokesperson Vincent Magwenya said the President was still mulling over the contents and consulting with various stakeholders.

The ANC top brass was expected to meet at the weekend to discuss the matter.
