Johannesburg – The police in Gauteng on Sunday said they were searching for suspects in a shooting in Woodmead in which two people died and one was seriously injured.
The shooting occurred in the early hours of Sunday, (20 November 2022).
Although police did not name the deceased, speculation was that the shooting was the earlier reported “incident” in which DJ Sumbody lost his life.
The family of the Amapiano artist and producer whose real name is John Sefoka declined to share any details on his death, saying the matter was under police investigation.
The other person shot dead was thought to be DJ Sumbody’s driver.
Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo said the police received a complaint about a shooting incident at the corner of Woodmead Drive and Woodland Drive at about 00:30.
“Upon arrival at the scene, police found two people inside a VW Golf with gunshot wounds,” said Lieutenant Colonel Masondo.
“Both victims, a driver, and a passenger were certified dead on the scene.
“It was reported that the third victim, who was driving a BMW X5, was taken to the nearest medical care center after sustaining gunshot wounds.
“The motive for the shooting is unknown at this stage.”
Gauteng Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Tommy Mthombeni, said maximum resources to trace suspects responsible for this shooting had been activated.
Police are appealing to anyone with information that can help in the investigation or assist in the apprehension of the suspects to please call the crime stop number on 08600 10111 or report to the nearest police station.
