East London – The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) on Wednesday searched the National Lotteries Commission (NLC) offices in East London, Eastern Cape.
The SIU said it received a tip-off from a whistleblower alleging that 40 nonprofit organisations were recruited to apply for grant funding.
They allegedly received about R14 million.
Upon receiving the money, it was allegedly channeled to a family member of a former NLC board member.
During the raid, the SIU seized documents relating to ongoing investigations.
