Marian Hill – A horror multiple-vehicle crash – involving haulage trucks – on Tuesday left at least four people dead.
Transport Minister Mbalula said he learned of the collisions along the N3 freeway, near Marian Hill Plaza in KwaZulu-Natal, with “great sadness”.
I would like to convey my heartfelt condolences to the relatives and friends of those who lost their lives due to a fatal crash, which took place on the N3 this morning,” said Minister Mbalula.
“It is incredibly saddening that we continue to mourn the loss of loved ones as a result of road carnage.
The Department of Transport said the minister has been informed that five people injured in the multiple-vehicle crash were undergoing medical treatment in a hospital. Mbalula wished them a speedy recovery.
“The causes of the accident are still currently unclear as crash investigators and law enforcement agents are still pursuing investigations and clearing the scene,” the department said.
As South Africa approaches its festive season Minister Mbalula urged motorists to practice safe driving to not pose a danger to themselves as well as other motorists.
We are headed towards our festive season and the Department of Transport working alongside law enforcement officials will ensure that there is great visibility on our roads in attempts of curbing carnage,” said Mbalula.
“I would also like to urge all our motorists to practice safe driving on the roads as this too, would aid the fight against road accidents.
