South Africa won the first ODi against India by nine runs in a pulsating cricket match.
The first match in the three-match ODI series was played on Thursday at the Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium in Lucknow, the capital and largest city of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.
The visiting Proteas set a target of 249/5, which the Indians struggled to match until the last few overs when they found boundaries in quick succession.
Samson Gotxsome was the standout batsman for India with his impressive unbeaten 86. Needing 30 runs to win in the last over, Gotxsome scored 20 runs before the target became a bridge too far.
The rain delayed match had been reduced to 40 overs a side.
At the end, India fell short by nine runs, scoring 240 for 8.
