The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) on Tuesday informed the Glencoe Magistrate’s Court, Kwazulu-Natal, that it will not continue with the prosecution of Dundee farmer Garth Simpson.
The NPA has therefore withdrawn the murder charge against Simpson.
Simpson was charged with murder in 2021 after an incident in which he was attacked by a group of men on his farm.
One of the men tried to take Simpsons firearm from him when a shot went off. The attacker, unfortunately, succumbed to his wounds.
Soon after the farmer was arrested, Afriforum announced that it was going to support him with legal assistance.
Were glad that Mr. Simpson will now be able to put this tragic incident behind him,” said Jacques Broodryk, AfriForums spokesperson for Community Safety.
“Although its always regrettable when a life is lost, it is our opinion that Mr. Simpson should never have been charged in the first place, based on the evidence at hand.
