Johannesburg – Former football players, current players, and coaches will be acknowledged for their tireless work at an upcoming event in the North West.

The South Africa Football Association (SAFA) in the North West in partnership with South African Masters & Legends Football Association and Pico Production will host the event dubbed: “Pitsa Ya Kgale Gala dinner and Football Development Programs”.

“This is the first time the association hosts a Gala Dinner of this kind, where former players, current players, and coaches will be acknowledged for their tireless work,” said Nito Antonio, the organiser of the event.

“The event that will be taking place comprises football matches a gala dinner and involving masters and legends of the football game, local teams both male and female.”

Martins Antonio, the chairman of Pico the event hosts, said male and female football stars that played a big role in the game will be given awards.

Some of the participants will be from the University of North West.

Martins Antonio said Mafikeng FM is Pico’s media partner in the effort to promote sport in the province.

He said Pico is also looking to partner with the University of North West in creating development programs to uplift and promote sport.

Martins Antonio said there were moves to see how the provincial Department of Sport, Art, and Culture can, “make sure this becomes a long-term project and make sure all provinces benefit from this good deal”.

He said the idea was to help sports legends remain part of the development program in the province.

“Upcoming sportspeople can learn a lot from the legends,” Martins Antonio said.

This event will take place at Mmabatho Palms Hotel on 23 September 2022.
