A horror crash between a black Mercedes Benz and a minibus taxi along WF Nkomo Street, near Schurveberg Road in Saulsville in Tshwane, left three men dead.
Four others, who were badly injured in the crash, died in hospital – bringing the number of fatalities to seven.
The Tshwane Emergency Services Department said the deadly collision occurred at about 6.30 am Saturday.
When Emergency Services arrived on the scene they said they found many injured passengers still trapped in the minibus taxi.
“Upon assessment of the scene and patients, paramedics declared three male patients dead on the scene,” said the Tshwane Emergency Services Department.
All the deceased were from the minibus taxi.
Firefighters had to use the “Jaws of Life” to extricate their bodies from the wreck.
“A female patient was extricated from the light motor vehicle (a black Mercedes Benz sedan) was transported to Kalafong Hospital in a critical condition while a male patient from the same vehicle was transported with minor to moderate injuries,” said Tshwane Emergency Services Department.
“Four out of the six patients transported to Kalafong Hospital in a critical condition were later declared dead bringing the total number of the deceased to seven.”
“Between the two vehicles, a total of 15 patients were involved, of which 7 died and 8 survived and are receiving medical treatment at Kalafong, Steve Biko, and Pretoria West hospitals.”
The Tshwane Emergency Services Department said the cause of the accident had not yet been determined.
