A multiple car crash along the M4 North, before Margaret Mncadi Avenue (formerly Victoria Embankment or the Esplanade) in Durban, left three people dead and many others injured on Tuesday morning.
The deadly pile-up occurred just before 09.30 on Tuesday morning.
ALS Paramedics Medical Services said: “A taxi, a truck, and multiple vehicles had collided on the highway before the taxi overturned multiple times, ejecting most of its occupants.
“A quick triage system was set up and immediately more ambulances, as well as Advanced Life Support Paramedics, were dispatched to the scene.”
Several ambulances and other emergency assistance vehicles were seen rushing to the scene of the crash.
“Three people between the ages of 20 and 30 sustained fatal injuries and there was nothing more Paramedics could do for them and they were declared deceased on the scene,” ALS Paramedics Medical Services.
“Multiple others sustained injuries ranging from moderate to critical were also stabilized on the scene by Advanced Life Support Paramedics before being transported to a nearby Durban hospital for the further treatment that they required.
“At this stage the events leading up to the accident are unknown.”‘
The South African Police Services were on the scene.
