A collision along the N14 on Friday resulted in both vehicles landing in the Jukskei River, near Diepsloot, Gauteng.

A heavy-duty vehicle and a sports utility vehicle collided, before both vehicles careened off the bridge, plunging into the Jukskei River below, explained Emer-G-Med.

“Paramedics and Search and Rescue services acted swiftly managing to free the occupants of the heavy-duty vehicle, however the driver and only occupant of the SUV was found to be severely entrapped in the wreckage,” Emer-G-Med said.

“A multi-disciplinary effort between Emer-G-Med, the South African Police Service Search and Rescue Units as well as Gauteng Provincial services, saw a rescue operation take place, where the man was cut free and brought to safety.

“‘Once free he was placed onto a mechanical ventilator to assist him in breathing and stabilised by advanced life support paramedics before a decision was made to airlift him through to a specialist facility with the assistance of the Netcare911 aeromedical helicopter.”
