South Africa beat Tunisia 1-0 Thursday night in Morocco to secure a spot in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) semi-finals and the FiFa Women’s World Cup 2023.
Banyana Banyana breached Tunisia’s defence in the first half with a series of passes that saw Jermaine Seoposenwe score the only goal of the match.
South Africa survived a last-minute scare when a Tunisian player fell in the penalty area, luckily the ref resisted calls for a spot-kick.
The victory also secured Banyana a spot in the FiFa Women’s World Cp in Australia and New Zealand next year from 20 July to 20 August 2023.
In the other game, Nigeria’s Super Falcons beat Cameroon 1-0 to qualify for the WAFCON semi-finals against hosts Morocco.
The only goal of the match scored by Rasheedat Ajibade – the girl with the blue hair – placed Nigeria in the last four alongside South Africa, Morocco, and Zambia.
The Super Falcons, who lost the opening Group game against Banyana, have also qualified for the FiFa Women’s World Cup.
