The Kwaggafontein Regional Court in Mpumalanga has sentenced former bank manager Aubrey Lepala Tlaka to 15 years in prison for stealing millions of rand from his employer.
The court heard that between January 2011 and November 2012, 45-year-old Tlaka – who was a bank manager – stole more than R3.6 million from an ATM and a client’s estate account.
When the theft was discovered the accused, who worked at a bank located in the Kwaggafontein Complex, was reported to the police.
Tlaka was arrested and brought before the court. Before his matter could be concluded the accused absconded.
However, the accused was re-arrested by the Middelburg-based Hawks.
This time around the matter was finalised and Tlaka was found guilty of multiple counts of theft on 25 May 2022.
The accused was kept in custody until he was sentenced this week on Tuesday to 15 years imprisonment.
