The 36-year-old king of clay overwhelmed his younger opponent with his ability to return serve and forehand shots with seeming ease.
With each game, Nadal sapped the strength of 23-year-old Ruud to win his 22nd Grand slam.
It was the Spaniard’s 14th French Open title.
Nadal won the match 6-3, 6-3, 6-0.
