Hospitalised patients had to be hastily evacuated early Sunday morning from the Life Chatsmed Gardens Hospital after several wards caught alight.
Emergency responders, including Emer-G-Med, Netcare911, Blue Security, EThekwini Fire and Rescue Services were on the scene.
Numerous emergency personnel were also attended to the fire at the 215-bed hospital in Chatsworth, south of Durban.
At least nine patients were transferred to other medical facilities.
“Reports from the scene are that a fire broke out in one of the wards leading to an evacuation,” said Emer-G-Med.
“No injuries were sustained, however, considerable damage was caused by the fire.”
