National Senior Certificate, Senior Certificate Exams Begin Monday

The Department of Basic Education said in a weekend statement that it was “ready to administer the 2022 May/June examination starting tomorrow, Monday, 9 May 2022”.

A total of 290 682 candidates will sit for the May/June 2022 examinations and this comprises candidates registered for both the National Senior Certificate (NSC) and the Senior Certificate (SC) qualifications.

The registered candidates wrote the NSC in 2021 and in previous years but did not attain the full requirements of the qualification.

The candidates are adult candidates are older than 21 years and have completed a minimum of Grade 7 or ABET Level IV.

There are 165 993 candidates for the NSC and 124 689 for the SC.

These candidates will be sitting for the examinations at 5 236 examination centres, across the country.

The Department of Basic Education said it has “learnt valuable lessons from the previous examinations and is therefore confident in administering this examination, successfully”.

The Department said it was “fully aware that the majority of our learners are honest and will comply with these rules so that we eradicate any irregular practice that may rear its head in this examination.

“Candidates are requested to report any irregular practices that they may observe to the school principal.

“The Department wishes all candidates who will sit for the May/June 2022 examination the very best in their endeavours to ensure success in this very important examination.”
