Chicco Released On Bail For ‘Toy Gun’, Assault Of City Power Technicians

Musician Ernest “Chicco” Twala appeared at the Randburg Magistrates’ Court Tuesday on charges related to “pointing something that resembles a firearm and common assault”.

The alleged incident took place at Bloubosrand on Sunday, 1 May 2022, when two City Power technicians attended to an outage in the area.

When the technicians switched off the power, Twala allegedly charged at one of them, choked him and pointed what looked like a firearm.

The 58-year-old musician, who was arrested after the incident, said it was a “toy gun” that he used after he mistook the City Power technicians for cable thieves.

Twala was released on R2 000 bail and will return to court on 26 August 2022. The case was postponed for further investigations.
