Rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes has won the battle for half the ownership of The Braai Show that airs on SABC1.
Since he was replaced as host of the show by another rapper Cassper Nyovest, AKA has waged a court battle to “get what is mine”.
On Monday AKA said: “This morning justice was finally served. I received confirmation of what I have always said, that I own The Braai Show.”
He added: “I am happy that the arbitration proceedings found in my favour that I am a 50% owner of The Braai Show.”
Last year the question of ownership rights of television shows came under the spotlight after AKA was replaced as host of his show.
On Monday, AKA declared: “Now that the arbitration proceedings have determined with finality that I own half of the Braai Show I will be going after what is rightfully mine against those that sought to exploit and undermine my creativity and intellectual property.”
To his lawyers, Molai Attorneys, counsel, Advocate Tshidiso Ramogalea and Megacy, AKA said “a special thanks”.
The rapper said: “Let this serve as a warning to anybody in the entertainment industry, individual, production company or broadcaster, who seeks to steal our ideas. Get those coins ready.”
