Tourism Minister Lindiwe Sisulu on Friday confirmed that she was distancing herself from the Presidency’s announcement that she had apologised for “insulting African judges”.
The Presidency on Thursday said Sisulu had apologised for her article, which Acting Chief Justice Raymond Zondo described as an insult to African judges.
However, soon after the Presidency said Sisulu had apologised and retracted her hurtful comments about judges, the tourism minister distanced herself from the apology.
In an unsigned statement attributed to Sisulu and posted on social media, the tourism minister said the announcement that she had apologised was a misrepresentation of her meeting with the president.
On Friday Sisulu confirmed through her spokesperson, Steve Motale, that she was denying making any apology.
The tourism minister has issued a second statement on the matter in which she said there was a deliberate misrepresentation by the President’s media team of her meeting with Ramaphosa.
All eyes are on Ramaphosa to see what he will do.
