Multiple crime accused 52-year-old Rogerio Domingos Moiane was nabbed in court by elite crime busters – the Hawks – for Rhino possession while he was applying for bail for another rap.
Captain Dineo Lucy Sekgotodi said the accused was arrested on Friday at the Delmas Magistrate’s Court, where he was appearing for a bail hearing.
Moiane was initially arrested in March 2016 at Kaapmuiden for possession of an unlicensed firearm.
He was caught with a rifle fitted with a silencer and bullets.
“The accused made several court appearances and later was released on bail but never returned in court and a warrant of his arrest was issued,” said Captain Sekgotodi.
In October 2021, the accused while out on bail and wanted for evading court was found at Delmas N12 in possession of rhino horn.
Moiane was arrested, charged, and detained at Modderbee Prison.
When he was brought to court in Delmas on Friday for his bail application the matter was postponed to 24 February 2022 for further investigation.
“The accused was also served with a warrant of arrest for Kaapmuiden case, and he is expected to appear before the Nelspruit Magistrate Court on Monday, 17 January 2022,” explained Captain Sekgotodi.
Moiane was remanded in custody.
