Malatjie and her husband were seriously injured when their car was involved in a late-night collision Sunday with a Ford Ranger between KwaMhlanga and Emalahleni, Mpumalanga.

They were taken to hospital, but they both succumbed to their injuries.

The driver of the Ford Ranger died on the spot.

“It is such commitment and dedication that we should emulate from the mayor.

“In Cllr Malatjie we lost a committed servant of the people and her contribution will be remembered for years to come.

“Her passing should strengthen our efforts to ensure an effective and efficient functioning municipality.”

Dlamini-Zuma added: “During this trying time, our thoughts and prayers are with all the loved ones of our dearly departed mayor and the people of Emalahleni.

“May the souls of our dearly departed rest in eternal peace.”
