A man accused of shooting dead seven members of the same family – including a heavily pregnant woman – has handed himself over to the police in Thohoyandou, Limpopo.
Police on Saturday said they had arrested a suspect who allegedly shot four children and three adults dead in the wee hours of Christmas morning.
The office of the Limpopo provincial commissioner said it had opened seven counts of murder.
“The police in Malamulele have opened a case of murder (seven counts) after seven members of the family were today, 25 December 2021 just after midnight at about 00:20, shot and killed allegedly by another family member at Jimmy Jones village in the Vhembe District,” said Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo.
“The firearm that was allegedly used in the shooting was also seized,” said Brigadier Mojapelo.
“The motive for the incident is unknown at this stage but family feud cannot be ruled out.”
Brigadier Mojapelo said the names of the deceased will be released later as investigations are still unfolding.
