The suspended head of human settlements in Mpumalanga, Kebone Masange, and former acting director of public prosecutions in that province’s division of the high court, Matric Luphondo, briefly appeared in the Pretoria Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
The pair are facing three counts of corruption, five counts of defeating the administration of justice, two counts of corruption by a member of the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) and one count of conspiracy to commit corruption.
“Today, the indictment and copies of the docket were served to the accused and the court once again reminded the accused not to communicate or interfere with state witnesses,” explained Lumka Mahanjana, NPA North Gauteng Regional Spokesperson.
“The matter was postponed to 3 February 2022 for pretrial to ascertain the readiness of the parties to proceed with the trial,” said Mahanjana.
The trial has been scheduled to begin on 23 May next year in the high court in Pretoria, where it has been transferred to.
