Armed robbers shot a man in the stomach during a scuffle after an attempted stick up on Friday in Johannesburg.
“A man has been shot in the abdomen after a group of armed men confronted him and his wife on their return to a hotel in Fourways, Johannesburg this afternoon,” said Emer-G-Med, whose paramedics were among the respondents.
“Reports from the scene indicate the husband and wife were returning to their hotel from a popular shopping destination when they were accosted by a group of armed suspects.
“The men, armed with pistols, demanded belongings including high-end jewellery items.
“A scuffle allegedly broke out with one of the suspects firing a shot, striking the husband in the abdomen.”
The men fled after the shooting. It was not immediately clear if the robbers made off with any valuables.
“The victim was treated and stabilised on scene by advanced life support paramedics before being taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital for further care,” said Emer-G-Med.
Police were on the scene, but no arrests were reported.
