The five men accused of the callous murder of former Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa seven years ago, on Monday briefly appeared in a high court sitting at the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court.
All five murder accused Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, Bongani Sandiso Ntanzi (Alleged shooter), Mthobisi Mncube, Mthokoziseni Ziphozonke Maphisa, and Sifokuhle Sifiso (Nkani) Ntuli were informed that they will stand trial next year in April.
Sibiya also faces two attempted murder charges in a different court in Vosloorus.
In one of the cases, Sibiya allegedly shot a woman more than 9 times at Vosloorus hostel.
Meyiwa was shot dead on 26 October 2014 in Vosloorus at the home of his then girlfriend, actress and musician Kelly Khumalo.
The much-loved goalkeeper was at the prime of his career when he was murdered at the age of 30.
All the accused who were arrested last year in October will remain behind bars until their next court appearance for trial on 11 April 2022.
