There was no indication on Tuesday morning when electricity would be restored in the south of Johannesburg.
Residents of Aeroton, Evans Park, The Hill, Ormonde, Robertsham, and surrounding areas have been without electricity since Monday when the Robertsham substation caught fire earlier Monday evening.
Johannesburg Mayor Mpho Moerane was expected to visit the Robertsham substation on Tuesday to assess the damage caused by the fire and oversee City Power’s recovery plans.
There was no indication when City Power was expected to restore electricity in affected areas.
Late on Monday, City Power said it was “experiencing power interruption affecting some parts of Jo’burg South.
“The outage occurred around 20h30 after Robertsham substation caught fire plunging the area into darkness.
“The cause of the fire is currently not known, and teams are onsite to start with investigations.”
