A 35-year-old man drowned on Wednesday afternoon while trying to cross the Blue Lagoon at the mouth of the Umgeni River in Durban.
Emer-G-Med said at about 4 pm paramedics, together with Metro Police Search and Rescue, responded to a report of drowning at the Blue Lagoon.
“On arrival on scene lifeguards were found to be attending to a male believed to be approximately 35 years of age,” said Emer-G-Med.
“After extensive assessment, the man was found to be obviously deceased and there was nothing further paramedics could do to assist him, he was declared dead.
“It is believed he was attempting to cross the lagoon when he got into difficulties and drowned.”
The identity of the deceased has not yet been disclosed.
