A 33-year-old trucker has been arrested at the Lebombo border post after sniffer dogs led authorities to 48 containers of illicit drugs valued at more than R7 million in a hidden compartment.
Members of the Lebombo Port Of Entry (POE) and Dog unit (K9) on Tuesday night bust the truck driver as he attempted to enter South Africa from Mozambique.
While searching the truck, a sniffer dog reacted positively and officials discovered a false compartment in the truck.
Inside the false compartment, authorities found 48 containers with suspected crystal meth valued at R7.2 Million was found and seized.
The Hawks were summoned to process the crime scene and take over the investigation.
The driver, who was alone, was arrested. He was expected to appear in the Komatipoort Magistrate Court on Wednesday.
