Britney Spears is celebrating after her father Jamie Spears agreed to step down as her conservator after years of controlling her estate reports the Mirror.
The American singer, songwriter, dancer, and actress who turns 40 in December was delighted after her dad finally set her free.
She had battled for years to have Jamie Spears removed, calling his control of her affairs “abusive”.
The Mirror reports that new legal documents filed Thursday, her dad wants to work with the court on an orderly transition to somebody new.
Britney has been under a legal conservatorship since 2008.
A court ordered the arrangement after a lengthy public breakdown that led to multiple hospitalisations of the popular singer.
In recent weeks, the Toxic singer has appeared before a Los Angeles court, reports the Mirror.
Since Britney was placed under conservatorship he dad has been overseeing her estimated $60m (£43.8m) estate alongside private wealth management firm the Bessemer Trust.
She enjoys support from the online Free Britney movement.
In her court battles to take control of her life she has claimed her 68-year-old father was abusive towards her.
