Tatjana’s Record Swim Earns SA First Gold

Swimmer Tatjana Schoenmaker has taken South Africa’s first gold at the Tokyo Olympics with her world-breaking 200m breaststroke victory.

The 24-year-old South African touched at 2min 18.95sec breaking the 2013 record of 2:19.11 set by Denmark’s Rikke Moller Pedersen.

US swimmer Lilly King was second in 2:19.92 and teammate Annie Lazor came in third in 2:20.84.

“I am the oldest … but I am just excited for all the girls,” said Tatjana after the race.
