Jailed former Ukhozi FM radio presenter Ngizwe Mchunu is facing the music for allegedly inciting the recent unrest and breaking lockdown rules.
Mchunu desperately wants out of jail, but he is spending another cold night behind bars.
On Wednesday, Mchunu appeared before the Randburg Magistrate’s Court for a bail hearing.
Outside a few relatives and supporters called for his release on bail.
However, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) was opposing the former DJ’s bail application inside the court.
Mchunu is facing charges of incitement to cause public violence and contravening the Disaster Management Act relating to the recent unrest in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng.
The NPA insists that Mchunu is a flight risk and should not be granted bail.
More than 300 people lost their lives in the unrest and looting. Billions of rand were lost in damages to infrastructure and property.
The former radio presenter allegedly used social media to incite violence after the arrest of former President Jacob Zuma.
The matter was adjourned and will continue on Thursday.
