A hungry homeless man rummaging through a huge rubbish bin in Durban early Sunday morning found a newborn baby girl wrapped in a pastic bag.
Instead of finding discarded food, the homeless man was shocked to find a baby alive in a dumpster at Boscombe Place in the South Beach area.
The homeless man alerted authorities.
Emer-G-Med paramedics were called to assist Durban Metro Police Services.
“We found a newborn baby girl in the dustbin, still attached to her umbilical cord and placenta,” a paramedic told The Bulrushes.
“She was treated and stabilised on the scene before being taken to a nearby hospital for further care.”
The paramedic said thankfully the beautiful baby girl remains in stable condition and in good spirits.
“We commend the homeless gentleman for alerting authorities and ultimately saving this little lady’s life.”
Police are trying to find the mother of the baby.
