Mamelodi Sundowns Are Champions Again, Fourth Time In A Row

Just as the dust settled on the embarrassing behaviour of Mamelodi Sundown’s fans after they were knocked out of the CAF Champions League, the players rallied to beat SuperSport and win the DSTV Premiership title.

Undone by a 1-1 draw with defending champions Al-Ahly at the Lucas Masterpieces Morepe Stadium in Atteridgeville, Sundowns fans carried banners insulting their former coach Pitso Mosimane.

Sundowns has since apologised to Mosimane and his Eqyptian Al-Ahly club, which won the two-leg affair on an aggregate score of 3-1.

On Wednesday, Sundowns put all that behind them and took the game to Supersport knowing that a win would secure a fourth consecutive champions title.

With SuperSport reduced to 10 men in the seventh minute after Cyprien Manziba was sent off for a dangerous tackle, the result never seemed in doubt.

Sundowns went to the break leading with three goals scored by Lebohang Maboe, Aubrey Modiba, and Themba Zwane.

Having wrapped up the match in the first half, Sundowns simply managed the game to the end, but not before SuperSport’s Teboho Mokoena scored a consolatory goal.

The win saw Sundowns retain the DSTV Premiership title with three games to go.
